Hi Everyone! It has been a long time since I posted a blog as I have been busy sewing for my upcoming vacation and party. I decided to post a tutorial on how to make a pillow for any avid sewers after a request was made for this particular fabric.
.
What are required:
Fabric of your choice preferably 100% cotton, pillow form(this can be made but I prefer to buy),
thread to match fabric color, invisible zipper, rotary cutter (or scissors can be used), iron on monogram applique, sewing machine, zipper foot (with left and right groove) ruler, marker, pins, etc. and basic sewing skills.
Here are some of my favorite cotton fabrics
Steps:
I loving sewing large pillow covers but this was an odd request. This size is not requested often, since the pillow size was 26 X 26 I had to obtain by special order.
1. Cut two pieces of fabric preferable 26 1/2 X 261/2, 1/2 inch for seam allowance. Having a seam allowance will allow you to let out the seam a little bit if pillow cover is too tight.
2. Place the fabric right side up and place the zipper as shown in the above photo close to the edge of fabric right side down, with the zipper facing down pin the the right side of the zipper to the fabric.
3. Attach zipper foot to your sewing machine ( I used a Husqvana Viking sewing machine ) and place the top of zipper to the right of the pins in the groove of the zipper foot (right groove of zipper foot). Sew from top to the bottom of zipper removing the pins as you sew.
4. Next with the second piece of fabric facing up pin the left side of the zipper facing up to the edge of the second fabric as shown in the above photo.Pin zipper to fabric edge and sew using the left zipper foot groove. Sew the left side of the pins, take out pins as you sew. Second photo above shows how the left side of zipper should be pinned to fabric.
5. Sew from top of zipper to bottom as shown above.
6. Close zipper to make sure it is sewed correctly. Above photos shown how invisible zipper looks when sewn. Since I used a 26 X 26 pillow form and the zipper used was only 20 inches you need to turn the pillow wrong side out and sew from where zipper end to the edge of fabric.
7. With the fabric turned on the wrong side, pin the sides and sew two sides first.
8. Next, turn fabric right side out and iron on applique as described on the applique package.
If you choose you can hand sew applique on which I did.
9.For the final step turn pillow wrong side out and sew the last side.
10. Stuff your pillow form in the pillow cover, zip it up and you’re done. Iron on applique is on the top left of pillow.
I hope this was easy to follow, Shoot me an email @ nazla11203@hotmail. com if you have any problems or would like me to post your pillow made using my tutorial.
Now go and make me proud.
