It's that time again, time to put away your winter
clothes and bring out your summer dresses. This summer for me will be
about the dress. I love dresses but only long dresses so I have decided
to make my own since buying is not option for me right now. I love
Vogue patterns I will take a pattern and try to put my own twist on it
since I don't like to wear the same thing everyone else is wearing.
As shown, this pattern calls for a short dress since I don't like short dresses I decided to make it long, also since this is my first dress I decided to use a very easy pattern.
Items purchase for the dress : 3 yards of slinky fabric (which I will never used again to make a dress)from http://www.joann.com/, extra wide bias tape and buttons from http://www.mjtrim.com/. Pattern called for 2 yards but since I love my dresses long I purchased an extra yard. Always buy extra fabric to cover for any errors. Slinky silk fabrics are the most difficult to sew with because the fabric never stay in one place which makes it difficult.
Top part of the dress
Back of the top part of the dress
Added extra wide bias tape instead of 1/2-inch bias tape because it is easier to sew on. Almost complete, just need to add a hem, my bling bling buttons and woo la la its done. Ready to wear for a night out with my hubby.
With any dress comes shoes and one of my recommend choice of flat is the Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan 'Air Bacara' Ballet Flat from Nordstom
Below is my next dress still under construction. This was an impulse fabric buy I am still unsure of this fabric for a dress. My goal is make about five dresses and a leather clutch for my up coming vacation but since I am busy mom of an five month old I need to prioritize my time, so I am still unsure of the leather clutch.
Until next time, Happy Sewing!
