It's all about the dress

It's that time again, time to put away your winter clothes and bring out your summer dresses. This summer for me will be about the dress. I love dresses but only long dresses so I have decided to make my own since buying is not option for me right now. I love Vogue patterns I will take  a pattern and try to put my own twist on it since I don't like to wear the same thing everyone else is wearing.

As shown, this pattern calls for a short dress since I don't like short dresses I decided to make it long, also since this is my first dress I decided to use a very easy pattern.
Items purchase for the dress : 3 yards of slinky fabric (which I will never used again to make a dress)from http://www.joann.com/,  extra wide bias tape and buttons from http://www.mjtrim.com/. Pattern called for 2 yards but since I love my dresses long I purchased an extra yard. Always buy extra fabric to cover for any errors. Slinky silk fabrics are the most difficult to sew with because the fabric never stay in one place which makes it difficult.
 Top part of the dress
Back of the top part of the dress
Added extra wide bias tape instead of 1/2-inch bias tape because it is easier to sew on. Almost complete, just need to add a hem, my bling bling buttons and woo la la its done. Ready to wear for a night out with my hubby.

With any dress comes shoes and one of my recommend choice of flat is the Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan 'Air Bacara' Ballet Flat from Nordstom

Below is my next dress still under construction. This was an impulse fabric buy I am still unsure of this fabric for a dress. My goal is make about five dresses and a leather clutch for my up coming vacation but since I am busy mom of an five month old I need to prioritize my time, so I am still unsure of the leather clutch.

Until next time, Happy Sewing!

Pink Party

Apothecary Jars were decorated by me of course, ribbons were wrapped around jars starting from the bottom moving to the top. This idea to decorate the jars this way came  to me as I was on the treadmill breaking a sweat and yes I know strange place but I can't help how I receive my ideas. Since I was in charge of decorating for the party I deceived to use the color pink and white only.
Jars were used for pink and white candy
For the larger jars I used large candies
and added  monogram to a few

To decorate the table cloth I used over 10,000 silk rose petals. Pink bows are all ribbons. Of course this idea of the silk rose petals is partially my idea it has never been done before at least that's what I think. I have search the internet looking to purchase a table cloth with rose petals and have not seen it sold anywhere. The idea came up to when when I wanted to purchased a crib sheets and saw the crib skirt was decorated with thousands of silk rose petals which  were individually sewn on. Unfortunately  the crib set over $1,000 which I was not about to purchase, so again when the opportunity arise for this  party my first thought was decorate the table cloth this way and the rest is history.
My version of diaper cakes, since there are over several thousands diaper cakes sold on the internet I decided to make my own. They were used as the centerpieces.

Pink Party was great, it was actually a baby shower but I like calling it Pink Party since everything was  pink. My part in the party was the candy bar, gifts for the games and the belly dancer. Yes, we did have a belly dancer. I wanted a belly dancer at my shower but unfortunately the restaurant where it was held at was small, so when the opportunity arise I jump for it.
